In this tutorial we are going to walk you through how to use:
Dot.walking on Filters
Filters are commonly used to narrow down your data based on a set of desired fields that exist within the App, however, when combining filters with dot.walking you can add filters to your data from the information you can get from other Apps.
To use dot.walking you need to make sure that you have a reference field available in your app. You will be able to tell when you start using dot.walking.
To get started, navigate to the All {App Name} view in any of your Apps. There click the 'Filter, Sort & More' button.
In the 'Filter' tab, start typing the field name that references an app. Here is an example, if you are on the Contacts app, and you want to get information that is stored on the Accounts app, you will need to type account followed by a dot, like in the gif below.
If by the time you are done typing the dot, the dropdown shows fields after the 'account.' it means that there is a Reference field available to that App and you can use dot.walking.
Once you get a list of fields from the other App, all you need to do is scroll down until you reach the desired field, select it and then proceed to set your filters as usual.
You can apply as many filters using dot.walking as you need.
Dotwalking on List view columns
When configuring your list view, you have complete control over the columns you want to show, this also includes adding columns from fields that belong to other apps. This option works quite similar to the one for filters.
First, you will need to navigate to your All {App Name} view in any of your Apps and click the 'Filter, Sort & More' button. Make sure you have the list view Selected. Then on the 'Columns' tab, start typing the name of the reference field to the desired app followed by a dot.
If you get a full list of available fields it means that the Reference field to that app exists.
All that is left is to select the field you want to add to your List view and click the 'Apply' button.
