When working with word processors such as Microsoft Word or Google Docs it is not uncommon that when exporting them to a PDF file, the image quality is lowered as images are compressed to (mainly) reduce the file size.
Since the Publish to PDF feature is based on .docx files, the same is true for the resulting PDF. To prevent that the images you add to your PDF Template are compressed, we have a Pro-Tip for you.
Why is it Important?
The most common use case for the Publish to PDF feature is for Quote like Apps, to include your company's logo in the Quote header, which means that the end result, the PDF, will be shared with customers.
Compressed images could start losing their sharpness in the template.
Export your Image as PDF
This is the only trick to get your images looking neat in your FreeAgent CRM PDF files. It is also a great way to help you preserve their color. There are some key pointers for this to work.
- Use an image formatting application that enables you to export it as a PDF. There are different options out there for you to choose from. (Photoshop, GIMP, Photopea, among others)
- Make sure that the dimensions of your images, before exporting them to PDF, are the final measures. Some recommend that the logo width should be between 220 or 250 pixels.
- For best results, add a small margin to avoid the resulting PDF from cropping your image
- Once you have the right size, export it as a PDF.
Note: Do not print to PDF. Doing so will add your image in the center of a full-page which defeats the purpose of exporting it to PDF, as you will need to manipulate it in the word processor and the end result will be the same as if you used an image from the beginning.
