In this tutorial, we will cover the following topics:
- Create a Dashboard
- Creating Widgets
- Filters for Your Entire Dashboard
- Organizing Your Widgets
- Print and Schedule Report
Navigate to Dashboards
go to Reporting > Dashboards in the main menu.
Create a Dashboard
Click on 'Add Dashboard' in the top left corner of the screen.
Here all you have to do is give your Dashboard a name, and select whether or not you want to share it with your team. If you do, then you will need to specify the editing access level. There are two options:
- Full Edit Access. Anyone on the team will be able to make changes to the Dashboard.
- Read-only. All your team members will be able to see the Dashboard, but they won't have access to edit it.
Once you click Save you can then click on your new dashboard from the list to start adding widgets.
Creating Widgets
Once in your new Dashboard click on the "Add Widgets" button in the center of the screen.
This will take you to the Widget creation screen.
Note: FreeAgent can render up to 100 widgets per dashboard or view.
1. Choose Your Widget Type
There are many different widgets to choose from. Various charts, graphs, and even a search box. To learn more about the different types of widgets available please see the following section of the Knowledge Base:
Note: The fields in Add Widget screen will change depending on the type of widget you want to create.
2. General Settings
Title
Give your widget a name.
View
Select the view you want to use as the base for your widget. You can use a saved view or select "Embedded View" and create a new one for this widget.
App
Choose the application you would like to pull data from for the widget.
Conditions and Filter
You can adjust the filters from a previously saved view or add filters just for this widget.
For more information on filters see the following article:
Field
Choose the field you would like to use to base your widget on. Only fields within your chosen application will be available.
3. Labels
These will change based on the type of widget you're creating. All of these options are for labelling the axis, and the values, and for providing a legend describing what the numbers represent.
4. Format
Show Top N: If you enter in the number 5 the chart will display the top 5 records based on the filters you chose earlier.
Default Format: When disabled, override the default format.
Number Prefix: Add a prefix to the numbers in the widget, from letters to symbols.
Format Large Values: When enabled, it will apply the required format to simplify the quantities, for example, it will transform 14,000,000 to 14M
5. Targets
These are useful if you have goals or targets you would like to compare your numbers to in your chart.
Filters for Your Entire Dashboard
You can also create filters that will apply to all of the widgets on your dashboard. This is useful in situations where you want to look at specific sections of your data across all of your widgets.
Just click on the 'Filter' button at the top of the screen in your dashboard to apply your filters.
Organizing Your Widgets
You can rearrange the widgets by dragging and dropping them at the desired location. The others will be automatically rearranged. You can also change the dimensions of the widgets by using the resizing tool available in the bottom right corner of each View.
In the top right corner of each widget, hover over the three dots to get more options.
- Edit: Change the configuration of your widget, including the type and view.
- Duplicate: create an exact copy of your widget
- Export as CSV: export your widget in the CSV format.
Print and Schedule Report
With the "Export" button you can print and export your dashboard to PDF and you can also schedule a report based on your dashboard.
If you select PDF you will receive a notification once it's ready. Click on it to see the details where you will find a URL you need to click to initialize the PDF download.
If you select "Schedule Report" a window for naming and creating your report will appear.
